The History Museum, Chateau Gaillard (localization)

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL CASTLE

Built up at the beginning of the XVth century, the ‘Château Gaillard’, rare witness of medieval civil architecture, has kept his original arrangement. In turn, town house, auditorium of the Breton Parliament, headquarter of the ‘Société Polymathique du Morbihan’, the castle welcomes the archaeology and history collections of the museum of Vannes and many other treasures…

Museum collections are often brought together by individuals to whom life has, by chance, opened up areas of interest for which they have quickly developed a passion. They may be botanists, mineralogists, doctors, printers, artists or priests, but all of them share the same culture, the same thirst for discovering, understanding, sharing and passing on their passion.

Museums permanent collections are the heritage of passed centuries. Paintings, decorative arts objects, archeological pieces or curios produced by Mother Nature, these diversified and rich sets make up the common heritage that museums contribute to pass on to future generations. These collections, memories of passed times, are the material from which historians work on an interpretation constantly re-assessed. For that reason, museum collections can not and shall never be sold.
