Vannes' thirteen deputy mayors were elected by the town council and their mission is to assist the mayor, François Goulard.
Election
The mayor cannot manage the town single-handed. The town council therefore elects deputies to assist him. This choice takes place just after the municipal elections, at the same time as the elections for the position of mayor.
Role
The mayor delegates powers to his deputies. These powers are directly related to certain duties: finance, education, culture, etc.
Absence of the mayor
The chief deputy stands in for the mayor in the event of his absence or incapacity. If the chief deputy is unavailable, the second deputy takes his place. The deputies, can conduct wedding ceremonies, in the same way as the mayor.
