The town council

All decisions that involve expenditure in a town, either in housing or land policy, facilities or budget issues, must be submitted for approval to the town council which meets at least once a quarter and whenever the Mayor thinks it is necessary.
It can only take decisions if a majority of its current members are present and the decisions are carried with an absolute majority of votes cast.

"the council budget is proposed by the Mayor and submitted for approval by a vote of the town council (art L.212-1 of the Code des communes (Town council code)). The town council sets the order of priority for the work to be performed.
It decides on the rates of direct local taxes, the loans and prices of municipal services, the allocation of subsidies to associations, the employment of town council workers, etc.

The town council assembly also gives its opinion when this is required under the current laws and regulations (project for the alignment and levelling of council owned roads and lanes, land occupation plan laid down in article L. 123-3 of the Code de l'urbanisme (Urban planning code), creation of local welfare offices, etc.).

The town council is elected for 6 years by all the electors in the town.
The minimum age required for a town councillor is 18, 21 for a Mayor.
