The permanent collections of paintings
Presentation of thirty or so exceptional works, amongst which is a superb work by Claude Monet Pluie à Belle-Ile (Rain in Belle-Ile).
These collections, plus many deposited works, offer a familiar yet often renewed experience to visitors. Light in landscapes, the tireless quest of painters, is the main theme of the discovery of painting in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Figurative landscapes or abstract compositions are hung side by side and interact visually, reaffirming their inspirational continuity.
In the 19th century, painters experimented with painting in open-air settings. Gradually, light displaced the focus from the subject and led to abstraction The movement towards a modern approach was embodied by the work of Elodie La Villet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, Jean Le Moal and Geneviève Asse.
The visit to the museum is a stroll where every visitor is invited to trust his or her own visual perception and sensitivity. Multilingual notices are available for those who would like to know more about the paintings.
The museum's cultural department is expanding its sphere of activity by organising events encompassing other modes of expression such as theatre, music and dance.
