Ecole Nationale de Musique (National music school)
The National music school in Vannes is a specialised public artistic education establishment, classified and controlled by the State. It is part of the network of E.N.M. and C.N.R. artistic educational establishments in Brittany
Under an agreement with the towns of Pontivy and Sarzeau the "Ecole nationale" label is extended to the music courses that are undertaken on these two sites. The curriculum and the teaching orientations are established under the control of the centre where the final examinations are organised. The three centres are under the pedagogic authority of the Director. Teaching themes at the Pontivy and Sarzeau centres are monitored, coordinated and administered by the deputy director, and he is also responsible for musical distribution.
Vannes' National music school is funded by Vannes town council and subsidized by the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles de Bretagne and the Département du Morbihan. Families contribute around 10% of the total cost in fees.
(The annual cost per student paid for by Vannes town council is €1,630).
The missions of the National Music School are:
• to raise awareness of and to train future amateurs.
• to train and advise future professionals.
• to guide amateur players.
The National Music School is also responsible for building partnerships with different educational and cultural institutions.
Finally, through its musical season and that of the concerts of teachers and students, it is a centre for musical events throughout the town.
