The local welfare office (CCAS) operates in three main fields:
It manages buildings and services: such as crèches, day nurseries, playschemes, establishments and services for old people, social centres.
The staff offer technical and financial support for social projects for the common good managed by the private sector; they consider applications for state benefits (Medical fees, income support, benefits for older people, etc.) and send them on to the authorities such as the Conseil Général (county council) the Prefecture or health and social security organisations.
