Vannes town council is addressing the high speed internet issue by opting to set up a passive infrastructure of high bandwidth electronic communications (non-activated cladding and fibres).

Vannes town council is not setting itself up as a service operator, but as the manager of telecommunications infrastructures (public ownership) For a hire fee, the optical fibre system will be accessible to public and private enterprises that wish to interconnect their sites and to operators who will be able to offer very high bandwidth to their clients.

The construction of this 39 km secured network should cost approximately 1.2 million euros. The loop architecture of the network will make it possible to service the main local public establishments (council, urban planning department, conseil général du Morbihan, Université de Bretagne Sud, etc.) and the operators, as well as the users of the regional network Megalis (Hospital, the regional government, the teacher training college, the Crous student's union offices, the school inspectorate, etc.) and the majority of the business parks.

This network is a veritable asset for future economic development. It will add to the attractiveness of our area and enable Vannes to rival the performance level of large French cities in this field.
