Nestling in the heart of the Gulf of Morbihan, Vannes is a strategic crossroads. Only one hour by motorway from Rennes and Nantes, and with Paris soon only two hours away on the TGV high-speed train, Vannes also boasts a business airfield just five minutes from the centre.
Vannes, a strategic crossroads.
Vannes is the “Prefecture” , the “county town” for the Morbihan “Department”. Rennes, Nantes, Quimper and Saint Brieuc are one hour’s drive away. Paris is 4 hours away by motorway, 3 hours by high-speed train and 1 hour by plane. Nantes International airport is an hour’s drive on the dual carriageway and Lorient airport can be reached in 30 minutes. Vannes is a strategic crossroads in South Brittany and has the advantage of being right next to the Gulf of Morbihan, the main tourist attraction in the region.
Vannes enjoys the exceptional sunshine and mildness of the Gulf of Morbihan (more than 2,000 hours of sunshine per year). The Gulf is a true inland sea, which, according to legend, has as many islands as there are days in the year, and is a member of the "Club of most beautiful bays in the world". Its exceptional and ever-changing landscapes make it a magical and appealing place.
The former seat of the Dukes of Brittany, Vannes is a port on the Gulf of Morbihan and is located between two peninsulas: the Rhuys peninsula (Port du Crouesty) and the Quiberon peninsula (Carnac, La Trinité sur Mer, Auray and Sainte-Anne d'Auray)
