Vannes was awarded the 4@ label in December 2006 for its dynamism in the field of new computer and communication technologies.
National “Internet Town”Label
From 2004, Vannes has taken part in the National “Internet Town”Label created by the Association of Internet Towns and the “Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations” (Deposit and Consignment Office) with the support of the Higher Education and Research Ministry’s “Délégation aux nouvelles technologies” (New Technologies Delegation).
This label allows the local council to assess and demonstrate the setting-up of a local citizen’s Internet available to all, in the public interest.
The jury of experts assesses the policies implemented by councils on the basis of criteria linked to active citizenship, participative democracy and the acquisition and appropriation of ICT by all the actors in a territory.
In 2006 Vannes was awarded the 4@ label in Lyon by Mr. Christian Estrosi, Vice-minister for land-use management and Mrs. Catherine Trautmann, European Member of Parliament.
Out of 569 councils taking part in the label, Vannes is among the twenty-four towns that obtained 4@. Only ten towns obtained 5@.
Vannes stands out by its policy of openness to its citizens and the emergence of communication feedback. This communication via its website and multimedia services (with “Médiacap”, the Youth Information Office, multimedia libraries, community centres, and the “Henri-Matisse” centre) has the purpose of providing social, cultural and economic services to all the inhabitants.
Some examples of services provided: teleprocedures, electronic public forums, training actions aimed at associations, businesses and young people, etc.
